iphone wont forget old apple id

I have an apple iphone which had an old apple id. I have recently created my own and updated in settings the icloud and apps store with the new details . Every time i go to apps store it shows the old apple ID and ask for the password. It does not give you the opportunity to type in another apple ID and thus I am stuck. The old apple ID has been deleted so does not even exist anymore. How can i get it to forget thee old apple ID
